Ingredients

The Crispy Tofu
  • 1 block (400g) Extra-firm tofu Drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup (32g) Cornstarch For coating
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Neutral oil For frying
The Honey Garlic Glaze
  • 1/3 cup (113g) Honey
  • 3 tbsp (45ml) Soy sauce Or tamari for GF
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Rice vinegar
  • 5 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Toasted sesame oil

Equipment

  • 1 Non-stick Skillet Large enough to avoid overcrowding.
  • 1 Tofu press or heavy skillet Used for removing moisture from tofu.

Method

Prepare Tofu
  1. Press the tofu for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Toss the cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated on all sides.
Cook Tofu and Sauce
  1. Pan-fry the tofu in a hot skillet with oil until golden-brown and crispy (about 2-3 minutes per side).
  2. Remove tofu, sauté garlic for 30 seconds, then add honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Simmer until thick and glossy.
  3. Toss the crispy tofu back into the glaze until caramelized and sticky. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

Always press your tofu to ensure the crispiest results.
Don't overcrowd the pan or the tofu will steam instead of sear.
