Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup (200g) Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) Unsalted Butter Softened
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp (4g) Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) Salt
  • 1-2 tsp Lime Green Gel Food Coloring
  • 1/2 cup (60g) Powdered Sugar For coating
  • 24 Red Heart Sprinkles

Equipment

  • 2 Baking sheets Lined with parchment paper
  • 1 Electric mixer Hand or stand mixer
  • 2 Mixing bowls

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes). Beat in the egg and vanilla. Mix in the lime green gel food coloring until the color is vibrant and uniform.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix. Cover the soft dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Place powdered sugar in a small bowl. Scoop chilled dough into 1-inch balls, roll until smooth, then coat generously in powdered sugar.
  5. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft. Immediately press one red heart sprinkle into the center of each hot cookie. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving to a wire rack.

Notes

Don't Skip the Chill: Chilling the dough is the most important step for achieving the crinkle effect.
Be Generous with Powdered Sugar: A thick, even coating is necessary for a dramatic, snowy-white crinkle.
Use Gel Food Coloring: Gel color provides intense color without adding excess liquid.
Press Hearts Immediately: The cookies must be hot and soft for the hearts to adhere properly.
