Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened (113g)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (113g)
  • 2-3 fresh jalapenos thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tbsp water

Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Parchment Paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Pastry Brush

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the surface, then top with a single layer of thinly sliced jalapenos.
  3. Fold the pastry in half and gently press to seal. Using a pizza cutter, slice the rectangle into 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide strips. Twist each strip several times and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together. Brush the egg wash over each twist. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and deep golden brown.
  5. Let the twists cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm.

Notes

Work with Cold Pastry: If your puff pastry becomes too warm, chill it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before continuing.
Don't Overfill: A thin, even layer of filling prevents the twists from bursting while baking.
Serve Immediately: These are best enjoyed fresh from the oven for maximum crispiness.
