Ingredients

  • 2 cups fully cooked ham, finely diced about 340g
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise about 170g
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish about 60g
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped about 1/2 cup or 50g
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely minced about 40g
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard about 15g
  • 1/4 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Sharp Chef's Knife
  • 1 Cutting Board

Method

  1. Finely dice the cooked ham, celery, and red onion into small, uniform pieces (about 1/4-inch). This ensures the salad has a chunky, not pasty, texture.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, and Dijon mustard. Stir until the dressing is smooth and well-combined.
  3. Add the diced ham, celery, and red onion to the bowl with the dressing. Use a spatula to gently fold all the ingredients together until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust if needed. For best results, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Notes

The Chill is Crucial: Don't skip the chilling step! It makes a world of difference in flavor.
Start with Cold Ingredients: Ensure your cooked ham is thoroughly chilled before you begin for the best texture.
Dice, Don't Grind: To achieve that appetizing chunky look, always dice the ham by hand.
